【PERU】Report on Kurihara Sensei in Peru

On May 18th Kurihara sensei arrived in Lima and we took Sensei to see Machu Picchu, in Cusco (Inca citadel, recognized as a world heritage site). We spent three days in Cusco, visiting other places and enjoying Peruvian food.

Then we returned to Lima and stayed at the Military Circle of Peru, where the entire weekend event took place.

On Friday the 22nd, we were received by the Secretary of the Japanese Ambassador to Peru (the ambassador was in Japan at the time) for a courtesy visit to welcome Master Kurihara. The embassy officials showed great interest in our activities and asked us to keep them informed of our schedule so they could get involved in some way.

On Friday the 22nd, we began a seminar with candidates for the JKAWF Peru grading and licensing exams. That evening, after the training session, the licensing exams were held.

The Gasshuku began on Saturday the 23rd for everyone, with a total of 183 participants, divided into two groups:

  1. Students up to 4th kyu
  2. People from 3rd kyu and above

Classes were held on Saturday morning and afternoon.

The course concluded on Sunday with one additional class for each group.

During Sunday’s class, the embassy secretary visited us with her family to watch the class for a few minutes.

After the class ended, the closing ceremony took place, with the presentation of diplomas and the taking of group and individual photos. Sensei Kurihara was very kind and agreed to take all the photos our participants requested.

That’s a brief description of Sensei’s stay in our country. We are very happy to have welcomed him to Peru.

He has shared many teachings with us, which we are committed to implementing in each dojo so that, on his next visit, he can see the results of his work with us.

Thank you so much for your support.
