【NEW ZEALAND】JKA New Zealand South Island Karate Championships – Timaru 2021

A proud day for JKA New Zealand having just concluded their first Post Covid-19 National Karate Championships.

Karate members from all across New Zealand came together in good numbers to participate in these championships hosted by JKA Timaru at their wonderful state of the art dojo premises at “20 The Terrace” in Timaru.

Special thanks to Sensei Lizelle Pelser and all her karate members from Timaru, making it possible to bring this National event to the small town of Timaru. She and her members have always been an integral part of JKA WF and JKA New Zealand.

Sensei Pelser is an experienced karateka both at National & International levels and is also a qualified senior referee.

The participation ages varied from the very young 5 year olds, to adult groups in both female and male categories.  Participants included local members from Timaru and members from Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin.

There were 19 x events in total, with karateka’s displaying their flair and artistry both in Kata (structured practice for consistent movements) & Kumite (sparring) events.  The judging panel was complemented  by Referee’s from across New Zealand.

This sporting event was held in the true spirit of “Karate-do” and was indeed a “grand success” !
