Another fantastic seminar with Vice-Chief Instructor, Shihan Ogura Yasunori from JKA Headquarters. JKA New Zealand had the pleasure of inviting Shihan Ogura for the second time in New Zealand doing a karate seminar tour in both the North and South Island of New Zealand. Karatekas from all across New Zealand congregated to take part in 5 days of intense karate training.

Day 1 of training in Christchurch : A special focus on Kihon and its application in Heian Sandan and Gohon Kumite, members and guests gathered in Christchurch were able to push their skills to new levels.

Day 2 : Another fantastic day of training with Ogura Shihan this time it was in the picturious town of Timaru. This event was co-hosted by Sensei Lizelle Pelser of JKA Timaru. Shihan Ogura touched on Kihon basics with a special spin on achieving low robust stances with the importance of appropriate waist rotation. Senior members learned kata “Empi” taught with emphasis on the subtle swift movements, embodying the flighty bird ….swallow.

Day 3 : Seminar with Ogura Shihan in the Wellington / Kapiti Coast / Whanganui region Another fantastic opportunity to refine our karate. Ogura Shihan guided us through a very technical class focusing on kihon and kata including Bassai Dai. The detail, precision and depth of knowledge shared was inspiring for all who attended.

Day 4  & 5: Auckland hosted the main national seminar. We had a fantastic representation from JKA clubs all around New Zealand. Both Juniors and Seniors benefited from Ogura Shihan’s training. The training for Juniors comprised of Shitei katas with lots of kumite drills. Afternoon sessions with Brown & Black belts : Bassai Dai/ Bassai Sho were taught in fine details with emphasis on kata bunkai and practical implementation. Another great day of training!
The second day in Auckland comprised of comprehensive kihon and kumite drills, as well as in-depth instruction on Empi and Gojushiho Sho katas. The seminar was highly engaging and informative having the privilege of tapping into the technical expertise of Shihan Ogura . All participants greatly appreciated and benefited from the experience.
