JKA Mauritius, with the support of JKA HQ, has organized an International Karate Seminar from the 8th to 13th and 19th to 22nd November under the leadership of our Chief Instructor Okuma Sensei at the Côte d’Or Multisport Centre.

We were the first karate organization to organize an International event at this brand-new Olympic infrastructure opened by the Government of Mauritius in August this year.

Okuma Sensei conducted training for kids, adults, elders, beginners and advanced students, thus implementing the principle of “Karate for all” to more than 300 participants. We add also some specific courses for competitors in view of Tokyo 2020 world cup.

On the 23rd November we have hosted the 2nd JKA International Ambassador’s cup competition; we had the great honor to welcome 220 participants coming from Madagascar, Reunion, Australia, India and UK. The entrance for the public was free of charge in order to promote JKA karate in Mauritius.

On the competition day, the Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Yoshiharu Kato, remitted a Meiyo Shodan diploma to the Prime Minister thru’ the good hands of Mr. Stephan Toussaint the Minister of Sport.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Ivan Collendavelloo made us the great honor to remit the medals and trophies to the winners. He was also seconded by the Minister of Public Infrastructure, Mr. Bobby Hureeram.

We had also a very good media coverage on TV and in the newspapers (5 articles on our events).

JKA Mauritius was created in 2016 with only 3 dojos and 40 members and today we encompass more than 17 dojos and 325 members.

This success is mainly due to our commitment towards JKA but also to the continuous valuable help and support of JKA/WF in Tokyo.
