Beach Camp – JKA Mauritius – March 2018

The JKA Instructors of Mauritius have organized a karate beach camp on the Independence Day of our country.

The training started with all students together to practice kihon on the beach whilst facing the sea.

We have divided the courses in different groups; the kids had to practice Taykyoku Shodan and Heian Shodan whilst the others had to perform in depth Tekki Shodan to develop Hara.

It was a great sensation to perform kata on this special tatami i.e. the Sand !

Practicing on the sand has also the advantage to help students to improve the overall balance, their stability and strengthen the basic positions.

Thereafter, each Sensei took specific groups of color belts to teach different Bunkai of the Heian Katas.

There was also a session to demonstrate how classical Karate Wasa could be used as simple effective self-defense techniques in every day life.

Finally, all participants ended into the sea with the kimonos to practice Zuki and Mae Geri by hitting the water with maximum Kime.

All kids were of course delighted by this very last exercise because the weather was hot and very shiny.

After the Gasshuku, instructors, students and families joined all together to enjoy a pic-nic on the beach.
