【CANADA】Report on the 2026 JKA Kirkland Summer Seminar Hosted by Shiina Katsutoshi Shihan

We are pleased to submit this report on the successful completion of the three-week JKA Summer Seminar hosted by JKA Kirkland under the direction of Shiina Katsutoshi Shihan.

The seminar was conducted over a three-week period, bringing together JKA members and instructors from multiple regions for intensive technical training, instructor development, grading examinations, and community activities.

Throughout the seminar, Shiina Shihan delivered exceptional instruction, emphasizing the technical standards, spirit, and traditions of JKA Karate. Participants benefited from daily training sessions covering kihon, kata, kumite, and advanced technical applications. The quality of instruction and the opportunity to train directly under Shiina Shihan were greatly appreciated by all attendees.

As part of the seminar program, Shiina Shihan visited and conducted training sessions at several affiliated dojo locations, including:

• New Brunswick
• Ottawa
• Westmount
• Kirkland

Each location welcomed strong participation from students and instructors, contributing to a highly successful regional training initiative.

The seminar also included formal JKA examinations and qualification assessments. Students and instructors participated in rank testing as well as qualification licensing evaluations. These examinations provided valuable opportunities for members to demonstrate their technical progress and further their development within the JKA system.

A special highlight of the seminar was the Junior Tournament, which showcased the enthusiasm, discipline, and technical ability of our younger karateka. The event provided an excellent competitive experience while reinforcing the values of respect, perseverance, and sportsmanship that are central to JKA training.

We are grateful to Shiina Katsutoshi Shihan for his leadership, dedication, and outstanding instruction throughout the seminar. His guidance inspired all participants and strengthened the connection between our dojo communities and JKA Headquarters.

Please find attached photographs documenting the seminar activities, training sessions, examinations, dojo visits, and the Junior Tournament.

On behalf of JKA Kirkland and all participating dojo members, we extend our sincere appreciation to JKA Headquarters for its continued support and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of karate instruction worldwide.
