【CANADA】JKA British Columbia Summer Camp 2023

In what has become a valued tradition, JKA members from clubs throughout western Canada gathered for their annual July summer camp in the beautiful city of Kelowna.  Eighty-two participants from clubs as far east as Calgary and as far west as Victoria came together for several days of intense training and camaraderie.

Instruction was provided by Don Sharp (7th dan) and other members of the JKA British Columbia Technical Committee, as well as by visiting instructor Mark Deschatelets (6th dan) from Montreal.  Much emphasis was placed on achieving JKA standardization of technique in both kihon and kata, as well as on elevating levels of kumite.  In addition, examinations were conducted for ranks up to 3rd dan and for D-level qualifications, with several examinees obtaining successful results.

As always, the last class took place outside, beside Okanagan Lake.  Following the training session in 37 degree heat, everyone enjoyed immersing themselves in the lake for a post-training cool-down!
