The Japan Karate Association World Federation Bangladesh (JKA WF Bangladesh) successfully held its Annual Gasshuku 2026 from 3–7 September 2026 in Dhaka and Chattogram, Bangladesh, under the instruction of Shiina Katsutoshi Shihan, 8th Dan, Technical Director of JKA.

The five-day training programme brought together approximately 450 karateka and instructors from different parts of Bangladesh for intensive training in the traditional JKA method of Karate.

 

Opening Ceremony & Japan–Bangladesh Friendship

The Gasshuku was conducted as part of JKA WF Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to promote the authentic traditions and technical standards of JKA Karate in Bangladesh.

The opening programme was attended by distinguished representatives from the Government of Bangladesh, the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Karate Federation and the wider sporting community.

The presence of Japanese diplomatic representatives and Bangladeshi sports officials highlighted the close friendship between Japan and Bangladesh and the growing role of traditional Japanese Budo in strengthening people-to-people and cultural exchange.

 

Intensive Technical Training

Throughout the Gasshuku, Shiina Shihan provided intensive instruction in Kihon, Kata and Kumite, emphasizing the fundamental principles that connect the three areas of JKA Karate.

Particular attention was given to correct body mechanics, stability, timing, distance, speed and the generation and application of power. Participants were encouraged to understand not only the outward form of each technique, but also the underlying principles required for effective and precise movement.

The training also emphasized discipline, perseverance and the importance of maintaining high technical standards in daily practice.

 

Training in Dhaka & Chattogram

The programme was conducted across Dhaka and Chattogram, allowing Karateka from different regions to participate directly in training under Shiina Shihan.

The large turnout reflected the growing interest in JKA Karate in Bangladesh and provided an opportunity for instructors and students of different levels to train together under a senior JKA instructor.

The five-day programme also strengthened connections among JKA practitioners throughout the country and encouraged continued technical development through regular training.

 

Dan Examination

A Dan Examination was also conducted as part of the Gasshuku programme.

The examination provided candidates with an opportunity to demonstrate their technical ability and understanding of JKA Karate under the standards and expectations of the Association.

The inclusion of the examination alongside intensive training further reinforced the importance of systematic progression and technical discipline within JKA Karate.

 

Government & Embassy Engagement

The Gasshuku also received significant support and attention from the Government of Bangladesh and the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh.

In connection with the Gasshuku and Shiina Shihan’s visit to Bangladesh, Mr. Masao Sumita, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble State Minister for Youth and Sports of Bangladesh. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the significance of the programme and the contribution that JKA and Shiina Shihan could make to the development of Karate in Bangladesh.

Following the programme, the Hon’ble State Minister for Youth and Sports issued a Letter of Appreciation to JKA and Shiina Shihan, recognizing their contribution to the development of Karate in Bangladesh. The letter is attached herewith.

 

Media Coverage & Public Interest

The Gasshuku also attracted notable media attention. Of particular significance was an in-depth interview with Shiina Shihan conducted by Daily Waadaa, a prominent Bangladeshi newspaper.

The interview provided the wider public with an opportunity to learn more about Shiina Shihan beyond his competitive achievements and technical career, including his impressions of Bangladesh, the values of Karate and discipline, his experiences during the visit, and his perspective on nurturing the next generation of Karate champions.

The feature helped introduce the philosophy and human side of JKA Karate to a broader Bangladeshi audience while adding an important cultural dimension to the Gasshuku. Daily Waadaa’s interview with Shiina shihan is attached herewith.

 

Contribution to Karate Development

The JKA WF Bangladesh Annual Gasshuku 2026 provided an important opportunity for Bangladeshi Karateka and instructors to receive direct instruction from JKA HQ and to deepen their understanding of authentic JKA Karate.

With approximately 450 participants taking part across Dhaka and Chattogram, the programme represented a significant step in strengthening technical standards, instructor development and the practice of traditional Budo Karate in Bangladesh.

The continued organization of such programmes will contribute to the long-term development of JKA Karate and help establish a stronger foundation for future generations of Karateka.
