【AUSTRALIA】JKA Australia (JKAA) Gasshuku in Sydney 27 – 29 March 2026

JKA Australia (JKAA) hosted the event with tuition provided by Izumiya Shihan and Akiyama Sensei.

The Gasshuku was attended by students from JKAA, JKA WF and JKA SKC, along with other invitees.

Overall, the Gasshuku was a resounding success.

The tuition received from Izumiya Shihan and Akiyama Sensei was absolutely wonderful. All attendees thoroughly enjoyed it. The explanations and demonstrations throughout the sessions clearly emphasised the correct techniques in an easy to understand way.

Izumiya Shihan, focused on improving basic techniques and movements.

He emphasised ‘Koshi no Kaiten’ to make sure we all understood how to generate power with the use of our hips and our stance demonstrating the mechanics of the power generating up through the body, through your ankles, knees and hips.

He focussed on Bassia Dai, Kanku Sho and Gojushiho Dai katas.

With each Kata he made sure we understood where / how you generate power. Also ensuring that we understood the Bunkai of each, when and how the techniques should or could be applied.

Just wonderful, informative training delivered by a clear master of this art.

Izumiya Shihan exhibited much patience during his instructing, making sure everyone fully his understood the topics he presented.

Akiyama Sensei, focussed on the Kyu grades. She taught some exciting Kumite drills which proved very popular.  She spent time explaining how to generate speed and the speed of response. The response from the Kyu grades was just palpable excitement as they were entranced by her display of grace, speed and power.

Akiyama Sensei took the kyu grades through the Heian Katas, Tekki Shodan and Empi.

During the Gasshuku Izumiya Shihan also conducted Dan Gradings and Qualification examinations.

An absolutely unforgettable Gasshuku with second to none instruction.

At the end of the Gasshuku Izumiya Shihan and Akiyama Sensei were presented with gifts that will hopefully remind them of their teaching in Australia.
