Report: JKA Oregon Shiba Dojo Third Annual Summer Gasshuku and Tournament

The JKA Oregon Shiba Dojo Gasshuku was held over three days, from July 16th to 18th, 2026, in Beaverton, Oregon. We were honored to once again welcome Takuya Taniyama Shihan from the Japan Karate Association Headquarters as our special guest instructor for our Third Annual Summer Gasshuku and Tournament.

The event featured intensive technical training, a JKA Dan and License Examination, and a tournament held in conjunction with the practical portion of the Judge C License Examination. Participants traveled from Oregon, California, Washington, Arizona, Minnesota, and Texas, making this our largest and most geographically diverse Gasshuku to date. The continued growth of the event reflects the strong commitment of JKA members throughout the region to training under the guidance of the Japan Karate Association while fostering friendships and strengthening the bonds between dojos.

Throughout the seminar, Taniyama Shihan emphasized precise body mechanics, efficient movement, and the practical application of fundamental JKA principles. Participants trained extensively in kihon, kata, and kumite, refining posture, balance, timing, hip utilization, and effective power generation. His instruction reinforced the close relationship between kihon, kata, and kumite, offering valuable technical guidance for karateka of every rank.

On the second day, many participants were introduced to makiwara training for the first time. The drills provided a valuable introduction to this traditional training method, allowing participants to apply the hip movement and body mechanics learned during the previous day’s instruction while reinforcing the connection between fundamental technique and effective power generation.

A JKA Dan and License Examination was conducted under Taniyama Shihan’s supervision. Candidates were evaluated according to JKA standards and received valuable technical guidance for their continued development.

To facilitate the practical portion of the Judge C License Examination, a small tournament was held during the Gasshuku. It provided Judge License candidates with the opportunity to demonstrate their officiating skills under Taniyama Shihan’s direct observation. Competitors, judges, and officials all benefited from his instruction and feedback regarding JKA competition standards, judging procedures, and etiquette.

報告書：JKAオレゴン柴道場 第3回サマー合宿・大会

JKAオレゴン柴道場合宿は、2026年7月16日から18日までの3日間、オレゴン州ビーバートンにて開催されました。第3回サマー合宿・大会の特別講師として、日本空手協会本部より谷山卓也師範を再びお迎えすることができ、大変光栄でした。

本行事では、集中的な技術講習、日本空手協会の段位・資格審査、および審判C級資格審査の実技を兼ねた大会を実施しました。参加者はオレゴン州、カリフォルニア州、ワシントン州、アリゾナ州、ミネソタ州、テキサス州から集まり、これまでで最も多くの地域から参加した合宿となりました。本行事の継続的な発展は、日本空手協会の指導のもとで稽古に励む地域会員の強い熱意を示すとともに、道場間の友情と絆を深める機会となりました。

合宿を通じて、谷山師範は正確な身体操作、効率的な動き、そしてJKA基本技術の実践的な応用を重視したご指導をされました。参加者は基本・形・組手を幅広く稽古し、姿勢、バランス、タイミング、腰の使い方、そして効果的な力の発揮について学びました。また、師範のご指導により、基本・形・組手の密接な関係を再確認し、すべての級・段位の空手家にとって有益な技術指導となりました。

2日目には、多くの参加者が初めて巻藁稽古を体験しました。この稽古を通じて、日本の伝統的な鍛錬方法について学ぶとともに、前日に学んだ腰の使い方や身体操作を実践し、基本技術と効果的な力の発揮とのつながりを深く理解することができました。谷山師範の監督のもと、日本空手協会の段位・資格審査を実施しました。受審者はJKA の基準に従って審査を受け、今後の成長につながる貴重な技術指導を受けました。

また、審判C級資格審査の実技を行うため、合宿期間中に小規模な大会を開催しまし

た。審判資格受審者は、谷山師範の直接のご指導のもとで審判技術を実践する機会を得ました。選手、審判、役員は、JKA試合規定、審判方法、そして礼法について貴重なご指導と助言をいただきました。

JKAオレゴン柴道場は、第3回サマー合宿にご参加いただいた皆様に心より感謝申し上げます。特に、以下の皆様へ深く御礼申し上げます。
