Gasshuku Report
JKA Oregon Shiba Dojo

The JKA Oregon Shiba Dojo Gasshuku was held over three days, from July 24th to 26th, 2025, in Beaverton, Oregon. We were honored to welcome Takuya Taniyama Shihan from the Japan Karate Association Headquarters as our special guest instructor. Taniyama Shihan’s training focused on the concept of shime, correct tension, contraction, and body control, with particular emphasis on proper hip rotation during transitions forward, backward, and laterally. Participants also studied correct transitions between various stances, which offered a valuable opportunity to revisit and refine fundamental movement mechanics.

On the second day, participants engaged in kumite-style drills to apply the principles of shime, maai (proper distancing), and timing in a practical setting. On the third day, Taniyama Shihan demonstrated how these same transition principles are embedded within many kata, helping students deepen their understanding of the connection between kihon, kumite, and kata.

The Gasshuku also featured a JKA tournament rules workshop, offering valuable learning opportunities for both competitors and judges. This was followed by an open tournament supervised by Taniyama Shihan, who provided detailed guidance on judging protocols, etiquette, and competitor conduct. As JKA-style tournaments are rare in the Pacific Northwest, this experience was especially meaningful for all participants.

合宿報告書
JKAオレゴン 柴道場

2025年7月24日から26日の3日間、オレゴン州ビーバートンにて、JKAオレゴン柴道場合宿を開催いたしました。特別講師として、日本空手協会本部より谷山卓也師範をお迎えすることができ、大変光栄でした。

谷山師範のご指導では、「締め（しめ）」の概念（正しい緊張感、収縮、身体のコントロール）に焦点が当てられました。特に、前進・後退・横移動の際における腰の回転の使い方を詳しくご指導いただきました。また、様々な立ち方（立ち）の正しい移行動作について学ぶことで、基本動作の根本的なメカニズムを再確認・洗練する機会となりました。

2日目には、締め・間合い・タイミングを実戦的に応用するための組手形式の稽古が行われました。3日目には、それらの移行動作の原則が多くの**形（型）**にも組み込まれていることを谷山師範が丁寧に解説され、基本・組手・形のつながりを明確に理解することができました。

また、本合宿ではJKA試合規定の講習会も実施され、選手・審判の双方にとって貴重な学びの場となりました。その後に行われたオープントーナメントは谷山師範の監修のもと実施され、審判の姿勢・作法・選手の振る舞いなどについても丁寧なご指導をいただきました。JKAスタイルの試合が太平洋岸北西部で行われる機会は少ないため、参加者にとって非常に意義深い経験となりました。
JKAオレゴン柴道場は、第2回となるこの合宿・大会にご参加いただいた皆様に心より感謝申し上げます。また、以下の方々に深く御礼申し上げます：
