【Thailand】JKA Thailand Seminar and Training Camp 2025 with Taniyama Shihan

From April 25 to 27, 2025, JKA Thailand hosted the first Seminar and Training Camp in Bangkok since the pandemic, guided by Taniyama Takuya Shihan, 7th dan, from JKA HQ. About 100 participants practiced diligently at Omura dojo in the heart of the city. Alongside karate-ka from across Thailand, JKA Thailand was thrilled to welcome guests from Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Vietnam, the UK, and beyond.

Taniyama Shihan focused the keiko on kihon, particularly hip and foot movements (unsoku) and muscular contraction (shime). Participants of all grades, gender, ages, and skill levels enjoyed his teaching and worked intensively and enthusiastically on the proposed exercises. The kihon movements flowed seamlessly into Bassai Dai and Jion, enabling attendees to apply the learned principles to give their practice deeper meaning.

On the second day, Taniyama Shihan led an intense kumite practice, building on the kihon lessons from the previous day. Towards the end of the session, we returned to kata practice with some bunkai applications. In the afternoon, Taniyama Shihan conducted qualification exams for instructors, examiners, and judges.

The third day was devoted to dan exams, with nearly 70 examinees challenging themselves for higher ranks. The Shodan to Godan exams were efficiently conducted over the course of the day, with examinees learning from each other.

JKA Thailand would like to express gratitude and thanks to Taniyama Shihan for sharing his remarkable breadth of knowledge and guiding and deepening the practice of JKA karate in the region. We also say a big thank you to all participants, staff, and volunteers who, through their dedication and enthusiasm, helped to make this event successful and memorable.

We look forward to upcoming seminars in Bangkok and Thailand, training with JKA members from all over the world to strengthen karate practice and foster the karate spirit as a unifying force that brings the world together. See you soon in the City of Angels and the Land of Smiles!

Respectfully,

JKA Thailand
